JOBS-COUNTRYSIDE-RULES-CUTURE -test-

Ecco una verifica ideata per gli alunni di classe 5^.

Argomenti trattati:

- countryside

- regole

- jobs/work

- cultura inglese e americana.

Il motivo per cui questa verifica contiene più argomenti è dato dal fatto che, a mio parere, è sempre bene in ogni verifica riproporre alcune domande relative agli argomenti trattati precedentemente l'ultimo. Questo per far capire agli alunni che l'inglese non è fatto a comparti stagni, ma è una lingua spendibile in ogni momento, che coinvolge perciò vari aspetti, che contemporaneamente si intersecano.

Il primo esercizio riprende l'argomento "countryside" ed è incentrato sull'ascolto, che può essere proposto in due modi:

1- semplicemente dicendo i nomi dei vari ambienti (gli alunni devono insertire il numero nelle caselle)

2- leggendo una semplice descrizione dell'ambiente (gli alunni devono riconoscere le caratteristiche dell'ambiente e scrivere il numero nella casella sìcorrispondente).

Il secondo esercizio riprende le regole da mantenere in alcuni ambienti e valuta le capacità di lettura e comprensione. Inutile dire che bisogna abbinare frase con disegno.

Il terzo, il quarto e il quinto esercizio riguardano l'ultimo argomento trattato in classe (jobs) e valutano capacità di completare un testo scritto, abilità di ascolto e comprensione scritta.

L'ultimo esercizio riguarda gli argomenti culturali trattati fino al mese di novembre. Qui le domande sono volte in intaliano per testare le conoscenze dei contenuti riguardanti il Guy Fawkes Day e il Thanksgiving Day.

JACKET POTATOES - semplificazione -

Visto le numerose richieste, suggerisco la seguente semplificazione della ricetta delle Jacket Potatoes.

Utilizzando questa versione, trovo che sia molto semplice per i nostri alunni disegnare le sequenze, attività funzinale a memorizzare il significato delle singole espressioni e, quindi, per ampliare il bagaglio lessicale.

Attività proponibile in 4^ e 5^.

Una nota di riflessione linguistica:

facciamo notare ai nostri alunni, se già loro non li hanno osservati, i due verbi "wrap" e "unwrap" e spieghiamo come "un", messo davanti a una parola, ne cambia il significato: crea un contrario.

YOU NEED
- potatoes
- butter
- sweetcorn
- tuna
- mayonnaise
- tin foil

HOW TO MAKE
1 – Clean the potatoes
2 – Prick the potatoes all over with a fork
3 – Wrap the potatoes in tin foil
4 – Put the potatoes in the oven or at the bottom of the bonfire
5 – When they are ready, unwrap the potatoes and cut in half
6 – Eat the potatoes whit butter, tuna, mayonnaise and sweetcorn

JACKET POTATOES tuna, sweet corn, mayonnaise

Classica ricetta della cucina inglese, immancabile piatto nella notte dei falò.

La si può utilizzare in vari modi: il più immediato è quello di far illustrare ai nostri alunni di classe 5^ le varie sequenze.

Ideale sarebbe realizzare il piatto in classe, magari servendoci di un forno a micro onde; ATTENZIONE però alle norme igieniche, oggi rigide più che mai. Assicurarsi anche di eventuali allergie.

How to Prepare :
1 - Wash unpeeled potatoes well
2 - Pierce all over with a fork
3 - Sprinkle salt on them
4 - Wrap the potatoes in oven foil
5 - Cook in a hot oven (200C) for about 1 hour, or until tender (in microwave for approx 10 minutes)
6 - Cut potatoes in half
7 - Scoop out flesh, leaving a 1cm thick shell
8 - Place butter inside potato
9 - Sprinkle a little salt over the potato
10 - Mix the tuna, the sweetcorn and mayonnaise together
11 - Spread tuna mix over and serve

BONFIRE NIGHT - GUY FAWKES

Past
In 1605, Guy Fawkes and a group of conspirators attempted to blow up the Houses of Parliament in order to kill King James I. The idea was to explode the gunpowder during the opening ceremony of Parliament on 5th November, when the King would be present. An anonymous letter was sent to one of the members of Parliament advising him to stay away on the day of the opening session. The letter was given to the King who ordered that the buildings be searched. Guy Fawkes was arrested in the cellar below the Palace of Westminster on 4th November 1605. When he was caught he admitted that he wanted to kill the King. Guy Fawkes and the other conspirators were tortured and executed.

Present
This event is commemorated in Great Britain on 5th November every year with fireworks and the burning of effigies of Guy Fawkes. This is the only day of the year when fireworks are used in England apart from very special celebrations. On Bonfire Night, in gardens in every town and village in the United Kingdom, people light bonfires, let off fireworks which light up the sky and celebrate the fact that the king was not killed by Guy Fawkes. Preparations include making straw dummies, called "Guys". To make the body of the "Guy", children stuff old clothes with straw and for the head they sometimes hollow out a big turnip and carve a face on it. They place firecrackers in the mouth and ears so when the flames of the bonfire reach the firecrackers they go off. Some children still keep up the old tradition of carrying the "guy" in the streets and asking people for pennies. They say "A penny for the Guy". The children use the money they collect to buy fireworks. On the night of Guy Fawkes Day, the effigies of Guy Fawkes are placed on the bonfires and people gather around to watch the "Guy" burn.

Ai bambini può essere data la seguente scheda utilizzabile in diversi modi:
- semplicemente letta e spiegata
- invitare gli alunni a trovare alcuni elementi e farli colorare secondo le indicazioni (Find the toffee apples, colour them red. The match is brown and yellow. …)
- ritagliare gli elementi delle “Pictures” e quelli della “Story words”, distribuirli, far ricostruire le sequenze e verificarne poi insieme l’esattezza

Grazie davvero! Il materiale, fotocopiabile, è stato raccolto nel corso di vari anni e, sinceramente, non sempre ne ricordo la fonte. Il più delle volte comunque è stato adattato, per renderlo più consono alle esigenze delle mie classi.
